Braith Anasta, the agent for Cameron Munster, has shared that discussions with the PNG Chiefs have begun, although this does not ensure Munster's departure from the Storm.
The Queensland State of Origin captain has dedicated his entire playing career, totaling 251 games, to the Storm since his debut in 2014.
Despite being courted by multiple teams over the years and being particularly linked to the new Dolphins and Perth Bears franchises, Munster remains in Melbourne.
Currently under contract until 2027, the Storm surprised many this week by allowing Munster to start negotiating with the Chiefs earlier than expected.
Melbourne is eager to retain Munster but has indicated its readiness to support his decision if it's in his best interest, granting him permission to negotiate ahead of the customary November 1 timeline.
On Triple M Radio, Anasta sought to clarify the situation regarding his prominent client.
"I obviously have to be careful because Cameron is my client and I have to protect him," Anasta remarked during the broadcast.
"At the end of the day, there is a level of interest there from PNG."
"He can't talk to any clubs unless you get permission. We had to get permission from Melbourne and the NRL."
