Cronulla Sharks and New Zealand winger Ronaldo Mulitalo faces a significant setback after suffering an ACL injury during the Kiwis' victory over Samoa on Sunday. Following his selection to represent New Zealand once more, Mulitalo was unable to finish the match due to this serious injury.
The Sharks have since confirmed that he has indeed ruptured his ACL. This injury is particularly unfortunate, as Mulitalo was expected to be a key starter for the Sharks in the 2026 season. He will undergo major surgery within the week, which will sideline him for an estimated nine to twelve months.
This projected recovery time suggests that, at best, he may return to play by August, allowing for only about a month of the regular season. Conversely, in a worst-case scenario, Mulitalo might not take the field at all during 2026.
As a result of Mulitalo's injury, the Sharks are likely to rely on players Sam Stonestreet and Sione Katoa to fill the wing positions in the upcoming season.
