Mitchell Moses has been ruled out of Origin Game 2 due to a calf injury sustained during training, presenting a significant setback for the NSW Blues as they aim to secure the State of Origin series in Perth next Wednesday.

Coach Laurie Daley confirmed that Jarome Luai, co-captain of the Wests Tigers, will step into the starting position to replace Moses.

"It's terrible isn't it, Mitch played really well in game one and then started off really well this week," Daley remarked, expressing disappointment over the injury.

He emphasized Luai's experience, saying, "Jarome Luai will come in.

He played there last year and has a good combination with Nathan Cleary and he is a left side player, so he will do a fine job." Meanwhile, Matt Burton will remain as the 18th man.

Both Luai and Burton have experience playing alongside Blues halfback Nathan Cleary.

Burton, who has impressed as a No.6 for the Bulldogs this season, possesses a strong kicking game similar to Moses, and like him, he has a powerful running style.

However, Luai's extensive partnership with Cleary, marked by four premiership wins with Penrith, gives him an edge in terms of familiarity and teamwork.

Daley highlighted Luai's previous contributions to the Blues, noting, "The Tigers captain helped the Blues win last year's series playing in the halves alongside Moses, with Cleary missing all three games due to injury." As the team prepares for the crucial matchup, Luai's experience and connection with Cleary will be pivotal for the Blues' strategy moving forward.
