Warrington Wolves chairman Stuart Middleton has announced that Sam Burgess will continue as head coach next season, despite an underwhelming end to the current Super League campaign. Middleton acknowledged that "things must change" following a disappointing performance.
The Wolves' chances of securing a spot in the Betfred Super League play-offs were jeopardized after they suffered a surprising 25-12 loss at home to the financially troubled Salford Red Devils, marking their fifth defeat in six matches. This recent defeat has left Warrington in eighth place, six points behind sixth-placed Wakefield Trinity, with only three fixtures left in the regular season, raising speculation about Burgess's future as head coach.
In the wake of the loss, Burgess expressed his continued commitment to the club. Middleton reassured fans with a statement confirming that the 36-year-old will lead the team at the Halliwell Jones Stadium beyond this season.
"Sam Burgess has the full backing of the playing group," he stated. "He will lead Warrington Wolves into 2026 as head coach. He is ambitious, driven and determined to put things right."
Middleton also mentioned the club's ongoing commitment to developing a team based on homegrown talent, noting that with the Academy finishing the regular season unbeaten, the outlook for the future appears promising.
