Trailblazing Australian media star Michelle Bishop has reportedly left her role as Channel 7's chief rugby league reporter, with her successor already stepping up.

Bishop, who has been in the media for over 20 years, made history as the first woman at a commercial television station to hold the title of "chief rugby league reporter." The Daily Telegraph reported that Bishop and station executives met on Wednesday and mutually agreed to part ways.

According to friends of Bishop, they believe she has accomplished everything she could at Seven.

Jelisa Apps, who recently joined Seven from Channel 10, is expected to take on a larger role in covering rugby league for the network's 6pm news bulletin.
