According to reports, Michael Maguire is expected to take on the role of the Blues coach in addition to retaining his position as the New Zealand coach.
This news comes after Brad Fittler stepped down from the Blues coach position earlier this month following two consecutive series losses to the Maroons.
It is believed that Maguire's hard-mentoring style is seen as a good fit for the Origin arena, and board members are confident in his abilities.
While NSWRL officials are hopeful that a deal will be formalized soon, there may be potential hold-ups as Maguire is currently in New Zealand with the Kiwis.
However, it seems that the NSW Rugby League is not concerned about Maguire holding both roles simultaneously.
Dave Riccio, a reporter, stated on SEN Radio, "My understanding is that NSW Rugby League don't have an issue with Madge staying on as Kiwis coach."
Riccio also mentioned that the announcement of Maguire as the Blues coach may not happen until after the Pacific Championships.
This delay shows the respect and contentment the NSW Rugby League has in allowing Maguire to fulfill both roles.
Riccio added, "I think it shows the respect that they (have), they're content with Madge to facilitate both roles and the fact that they're willing to wait until the end of the Kiwis' campaign to formally announce Madge as the next Blues coach."
It remains to be seen how Maguire will juggle his responsibilities as the coach of both the Blues and the Kiwis.
However, if all goes according to plan, Maguire will soon be announced as the next Blues coach, bringing his hard-mentoring style to the Origin arena.
