Ahead of her debut NRLW Grand Final, Mia Wood has shared insights into her rugby league journey and the significance of family as she aims to contribute to the Sydney Roosters' pursuit of back-to-back premierships.
Wood, who joined the Roosters in 2023 as an injury replacement from the North Sydney Bears, has quickly established herself in the league despite being just three years into her professional career. Her consistent performances throughout this season highlight her capability and commitment.
Having played in every match for the Tricolours this year, her adaptability has allowed her to take on various roles, whether as a back-rower or in her primary position as a winger.
Now named as a replacement in the 2024 NRLW Grand Final against the Cronulla Sharks, Wood is set to fulfill a dream that many young female athletes aspire to achieve.
As she anticipates taking the field at Accor Stadium, the 26-year-old revealed that she didn't always envision a career in the NRLW, nor did she think of following in the footsteps of her father, Garth Wood, who played for the Rabbitohs and Balmain Tigers. This was largely because, during her childhood, rugby league was not a readily accessible path for girls, limiting their opportunities to engage with the sport compared to present times.
