Luke Metcalf, the New Zealand Warriors halfback, has been named the Player of the Month for May by his peers in the NRL, as reported by warriors.kiwi.

The recognition comes from a vote conducted by the Rugby League Players' Association (RLPA), where Metcalf triumphed over notable competitors like Roosters fullback James Tedesco and South Sydney front rower Keaon Koloamatangi.

The 26-year-old showcased exceptional performance throughout May, contributing to the Warriors' victories against the Cowboys (30-26), Dragons (15-14), and Dolphins (16-12).

Despite a loss to the Raiders (10-16), he helped rebound the team with a win over the Rabbitohs (36-30), noted as a match played on June 1, making it part of the May evaluations.

Earlier this season, March's Player of the Month was Brisbane prop Payne Haas, followed by Wests Tigers front rower Terrell May in April.

Metcalf's achievements in the five matches included scoring four tries, cementing his status as the club's leading try-scorer with a total of eight.

He also registered three try assists, executed a decisive field goal against the Dragons, made five line breaks, and 14 tackle breaks.

Averaging 87 running meters per game, he forced three goal-line dropouts, contributing to a total of 51 points.
