Melbourne Storm sign Cooper Bai amid release talks

Three clubs to fight for Cooper Bai’s signature, immediate departure possible

Marcus Bai's role in Melbourne's 1999 premiership gives his son Cooper's planned move to the Storm a family connection.

"Ideally, Cooper doesn't want to sign with two clubs in two years," Bai Snr told The Daily Telegraph last week.

Cooper, 19, has committed to Melbourne on a three-year deal starting in 2028, with his contract running through 2030, The Daily Telegraph confirmed.

He met the PNG Chiefs in Port Moresby last week but declined their three-year offer.

The forward had attracted interest from the Chiefs and Sydney Roosters after telling Gold Coast he would not stay beyond 2027.

Bai and his management are still exploring an early release from the Titans, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Gold Coast reportedly wants a player swap, with Storm forward Trent Loiero raised as a possible exchange.

Melbourne had previously tried to secure Bai for 2027, but he changed course and extended his Titans contract by one season.
