Melbourne Storm offer Jake Slater pathway

Don't ever question my integrity: Daley

Billy Slater scored a club-record 190 tries in 319 games for Melbourne Storm, then represented Queensland 31 times and Australia in 30 Tests.

His son Jake, aged 16, has been offered a place in the Storm's Junior Academy, according to nine.com.au.

Jake is due to join the club's Harold Matthews squad in 2027, aiming to earn a halves spot in the Under-17s and progress through Melbourne's grades towards the NRL.

The local player represented Victoria at this year's ASSRL National Championships.

"He's a local Melbourne lad obviously, and we have been watching him," Melbourne recruitment manager Paul Bunn told nine.com.au.

"We have made an offer for Jake in the Junior Academy."

Slater is considered one of the Storm's greatest players and arguably changed the fullback position with his ball-playing and passing.

His dominance at fullback in representative teams left other leading candidates, including Brett Stewart, Anthony Minichiello, Matt Bowen and Jarryd Hayne, playing out of position or missing selection.
