Melbourne Storm has faced a significant setback with the announcement that key players Nick Meaney and Tyran Wishart will be leaving the team at the conclusion of the 2026 NRL season.
In the off-season, Meaney revealed that he had been in discussions with Perth's coach, Mal Meninga, regarding a potential move to the new club set to join the league in 2027.
The 28-year-old has established himself as a starting centre for the Storm, while Wishart has played an essential utility role, adeptly covering various positions as needed.
Both players made their Melbourne debuts in Round 1 of 2022 and have garnered a fanbase, having participated in the Storm's last two grand-final defeats.
Storm CEO Justin Rodski expressed disappointment over losing the beloved players but acknowledged their decision to leave. "Both Nick and Tyran have been fantastic contributors to the club over the past four seasons," Rodski stated. "It's always difficult to lose people of the calibre of Nick and Tyran, but we understand their decision given the opportunity in front of each of them."
