Melbourne Dominates Parramatta in Season Opener

As it happened: Storm steamroll Eels to extend remarkable round-one record

The Melbourne Storm delivered a strong statement in the NRL, showcasing their dominance by defeating Parramatta in a decisive 52-4 victory on Thursday night.

This victory marks the continuation of an impressive round-one win streak under coach Craig Bellamy, now extending into its 23rd year.

Despite concerns regarding missing key players due to retirement, injury, and suspension, the Storm displayed remarkable resilience, barely faltering throughout the match.

Melbourne's standout stars-Cameron Munster, Jahrome Hughes, and Harry Grant-shone bright, while prop Stefano Utoikamanu dominated the field, achieving over 200 running metres.

The Eels started strong, showing promise in the initial 10 minutes, even taking the lead. Through a new halves partnership, Mitchell Moses and Jonah Pezet successfully set up Sean Russell for a try in the fourth minute.

This was notable, as they played with one less player after J'maine Hopgood was sent to the sin bin early on for a shoulder charge on Storm lock Alex MacDonald.

However, as the match progressed, Melbourne's resilient forward pack found ease in advancing through the middle, leading to a continuous stream of points and a dominant performance.
