Penrith's rising star, Casey McLean, is eager to combine his New Zealand roots with a NSW State of Origin jersey.
The 19-year-old has been a standout performer for the Panthers, showcasing his skills during a commanding 50-10 victory over Melbourne.
As part of a squad that's achieved the best start to the season in 2026, McLean is among several Panthers vying for a spot in this year's Origin.
Previously, McLean became ineligible for Origin play when he debuted for New Zealand at just 18, where he shone in every match.
However, recent changes to the rugby league eligibility rules now allow him to represent both NSW and New Zealand, and he's enthusiastic about the prospect.
Currently, NSW features Stephen Crichton and Latrell Mitchell as primary centers, though Crichton is dealing with a shoulder issue sustained on Good Friday against South Sydney.
Despite this, McLean feels confident in his ability to step up if coach Laurie Daley calls on him, noting he can effectively play on either edge.
"At this club, you can't really just put yourself down to be a one-dimensional, one side," McLean said.
"You can't just limit yourself, so you're going to have to be able to attack and defend on both sides.
