Mavrik Geyer to Join Wests Tigers in 2025

Penrith Panthers' promising young forward Mavrik Geyer has reportedly made the decision to leave the club after the 2025 season, opting to join the Wests Tigers.

Geyer, son of rugby league icon Mark Geyer, has participated in only 13 NRL games so far and has faced challenges breaking into Penrith's top 17 players. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and, having played just two first-grade matches this year, is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Tigers, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The young player has found himself behind several established players within the Panthers' squad, including New South Wales Origin representative Liam Martin, New Zealand international Scott Sorensen, and the recently acquired Isaiah Papali'i from the Wests Tigers.

This situation has made it difficult for Geyer to secure a consistent position on the bench, even amid injuries affecting some of his teammates at Penrith.

Regarding Geyer's potential departure, Panthers general manager Shane Elford mentioned, "We don't ever want to lose a local junior, and Mav's proven that he can play first grade and is a first-grade player," effectively acknowledging the likelihood of his exit.
