Matthew Russell, a former NRL fullback who played for the Gold Coast Titans and represented Scotland internationally 13 times, has signed a new contract that allows him to extend his playing career with a different team.

Russell was part of the Gold Coast Titans during the 2013 season, where he signed a two-year deal. However, he returned to England midway through his contract without making an appearance in any first-grade matches.

Although he has yet to play in the NRL, Russell has enjoyed a successful career abroad and has now committed to Oldham Roughyeds on a one-year contract, which will last until the end of 2026.

This new chapter will see him compete in the RFL Championship, the second tier of the English Super League.

"Oldham is a perfect fit, I haven't been able to show my full potential with my knee problem, but it has all been fixed now," Russell stated.

"My body feels the best it has ever been in my career and I feel my best years are still ahead of me."

"In the games I played last year, even when I was in and out of the team, it was probably the best I have played for a good few years."
