Te Maire Martin, a utility for the New Zealand Warriors, recently celebrated a poignant milestone by reaching his 100th NRL appearance.

This achievement is not only significant for his career but is also remarkable given the challenges he faced along the way, including a serious health scare.

Martin, raised in Tahora, made his debut for Penrith at age 20, scoring a try and kicking a crucial late field goal in a narrow 23-22 victory over Brisbane.

Nine years later, Martin's journey took a drastic turn when he was diagnosed with a bleed on the brain in April 2019, following his 55th appearance.

After this diagnosis, he shocked the rugby community by announcing his retirement in January 2000.

However, his story didn't end there.

Cleared for a comeback in 2021, Martin started playing local football in New Zealand before securing a contract with Brisbane for the 202 season.

His return to the NRL came in a game against the Bulldogs, the same team he faced in his last match three years prior, where he contributed to a 34-14 victory.

This comeback story cements Martin's resilience and determination, making his 100th appearance a heartwarming milestone, especially as he marked it against Penrith, the club where his journey began.
