As the 2024 season draws near, there is a rookie making waves in the St George Illawarra Dragons camp.

Dylan Egan, who spent last season captaining the SG Ball Cup team before moving on to the NSW Cup side, has caught the eye of coach Shane Flanagan.

In fact, Flanagan has compared Egan to Liam Martin, which speaks volumes about the youngster's potential.

Egan's standout performances during pre-season training, especially in the intense scrimmage match against the Manly Sea Eagles, have not gone unnoticed.

Even team captain Ben Hunt has thrown his full support behind Egan's bid for a Round 1 debut.

News Corp reports that Shane Flanagan himself has confirmed Egan as a genuine contender for the second-row starting position against the Gold Coast Titans.

However, Egan faces stiff competition from other promising recruits like Raymond Faitala-Mariner and Tom Eisenhuth, who have recently joined the Dragons from the Canterbury Bulldogs and Melbourne Storm respectively.

It remains to be seen if Egan can rise above these challenges and secure his spot in the starting lineup for the season opener.

One thing is for sure, though - Egan's determination and impressive skill set make him a genuine force to be reckoned with, embodying the spirit of Rugby League.
