Liam Martin, a forward for the Westpac NSW Blues, has shared his connection to the inspirational journey of Neale Daniher, the Australian of the Year known for his battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

Growing up in the Riverina and attending West Wyalong High School, Martin formed a bond with the Daniher family, playing junior AFL alongside Neale's nephew, Chris.

He has followed Daniher's efforts to raise awareness and funds for MND research since his diagnosis, which has garnered national attention.

Martin's personal connection to MND deepened when his uncle was diagnosed with the disease, making Daniher's fight resonate even more with him.

This connection was highlighted during a team gathering before Game One when former Blues winger Michael De Vere recounted his infamous staple-gun incident from 2003, further enhancing the team's camaraderie.

As the Blues prepare to potentially clinch the State of Origin series at the West Coast Eagles' home ground, Martin affirmed that "Daniher's inspirational journey will be front of mind," showcasing how personal experiences can fuel motivation on and off the field.
