Penrith Panthers legend Mark Geyer has opened up about the "emotional" moment he found out his son Mavrik would be making his NRL debut for the Panthers.

The Geyer name holds a special place in Penrith's history, with Mark having won the competition with them back in 1991.

The Panthers pride runs deep in the Geyer family, with Mark being related to former players Ben and Greg Alexander.

In a recent interview on his radio show, Geyer shared that he was taken aback when Mavrik called him to share the news.

His initial reaction was to make sure the phone call wasn't being recorded, showing his true Aussie larrikin spirit.

"It was on Sunday after Mav had a great game in the NSW Cup on Saturday.

When he told me he might be playing first grade, I couldn't help but feel a bit choked up," Geyer recounted.

With Mavrik set to debut for the Panthers against the Roosters on Thursday night, Geyer is gearing up to watch his son take the field and continue the family legacy in the world of Rugby League.

The Panthers faithful will surely be cheering on the young Geyer as he embarks on this new chapter in his career.
