Fans are buzzing with anticipation for the NRL grand final showdown to determine rugby league's top speedster, but not everyone is on board with the idea.

The talk of the town in rugby league circles for years, the race to crown the fastest NRL player has reached fever pitch after Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow showcased his lightning speed by chasing down Josh Addo-Carr in a thrilling moment of the season.

However, some of the frontrunners for the event have raised concerns about its execution, with Manly's Jason Saab and Roosters' Dom Young questioning whether it will be a fair contest.

Both men are hoping they will be too occupied with other matters to even take part in the race.

With their impressive speed and flawless technique on the field, Saab and Young are seen as the top contenders for the 100m sprint.

Tabuai-Fidow also made a strong case for himself by catching Addo-Carr, who is often hailed as the "fastest man on the planet".

While there are other potential challengers like Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Saab pointed out that some players may be unavailable if their team makes it to the grand final, while others might be on holiday or recovering from injuries.

"I probably won't be able to join in because we'll have a match that day," Saab admitted, expressing his hope that the Sea Eagles will make it all the way to the decider.
