Manly Sea Eagles Eye Connor Watson Signing

The Manly Sea Eagles are pursuing their first signing following the dismissal of Anthony Seibold, eyeing Sydney Roosters' State of Origin utility Connor Watson.

Currently under contract with the Roosters until 2027, there are indications that Watson might be available earlier than expected, with Manly eager to bolster their lineup.

Watson, set to be selected on the bench for the Blues in the upcoming series, plays a crucial role for the Roosters, yet is finding himself underutilized due to the depth in their roster at hooker and lock positions.

Initially recognized for his skills in the halves, Watson has begun to transition to a forward role, a shift that started during his tenure with the Newcastle Knights.

While the Roosters are not currently facing salary cap constraints, they are gradually reshaping their squad to enhance depth in the outside backs and add size to their forwards, all while considering potential retirements in the near future.

Manly sees Watson as a viable option for either lock or hooker, especially as Jake Trbojevic nears the end of his career.

This development may indicate that Manly is confident in off-season acquisition Kobe Hetherington becoming a key part of their forward rotation.

Leading the prop contingent is Taniela Paseka, who has faced challenges with his form, supplemented by veterans like Siosiua Taukeiaho and Ethan Bullemor, along with younger talents Paul Bryan and Simione Laiafi.

The Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs are also monitoring Watson's situation, with potential interest in him as his contract with the Roosters progresses.
