Mahoney's Townsville time ticks longer with hidden clause

Reed Mahoney's contract with the North Queensland Cowboys could potentially extend to four years due to a hidden clause in his agreement.

Mahoney, currently with the Bulldogs, is set to leave the club at the end of 2025 after receiving a release from the last year of his deal.

He has signed a three-year contract with the Cowboys.

This move fills the last major gap in the hooking positions across the league for 2026, as all teams now have a recognized number nine.

At the Bulldogs, Bailey Hayward is expected to take over the hooking duties formerly held by Mahoney, while Mahoney will step in to replace Reece Robson in Townsville.

Robson is making a move to Bondi, joining the Sydney Roosters, where he will play for the next four seasons.
