Mahoney's next tackle: The Bulldogs' exit door swings

Reed Mahoney is set to leave the Bulldogs and sign with the North Queensland Cowboys, following the announcement that Toby Sexton has joined the Catalans Dragons.

Mahoney, a former club captain, enjoyed a standout season in 2024, contributing to the Bulldogs' reach into the NRL Finals and earning a place in the extended Queensland Maroons squad as a backup for Harry Grant.

Despite this, speculation about his departure has persisted, particularly with the recent acquisitions of Lachlan Galvin and Bailey Hayward, who have established themselves in the first-grade lineup.

Mahoney is under contract with the Bulldogs until the end of 2026, with an annual salary of approximately $625,000.

Bulldogs GM of Football Phil Gould confirmed that he had allowed Mahoney's manager, Sam Ayoub, to negotiate with other teams, but this was only for the 2027 season after Mahoney's contract expires.

According to reports from foxsports.com.au, Mahoney has informed the Bulldogs of his decision to leave at the season's end, securing a three-year contract with the Cowboys.
