Reed Mahoney is ready to start afresh with the North Queensland Cowboys after a turbulent departure from the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. With a renewed mindset, he aims to keep things straightforward as he steps into this new role.
Now signed on a three-year contract, Mahoney is poised to assume the starting No.9 position at the Cowboys, taking over from Reece Robson. His joining with Scott Drinkwater and Tom Dearden will create a new spine combination for the team.
Mahoney enjoyed a career-best period at the Parramatta Eels, but his last season with the Bulldogs was fraught with difficulty. Toward the end of the season, his playing time decreased significantly as coach Cameron Ciraldo chose to pursue a different strategy, which ultimately led to Mahoney being dropped during the Bulldogs' finals run.
Now that he's settled in Townsville, Mahoney expresses that this move has given him an opportunity to reset both mentally and professionally.
"I'm just going to come here and be Reed," Mahoney told SEN. "Work hard, make people better around me, and share that love between the boys while working towards a common goal."
