The Canterbury Bulldogs have officially announced that Reed Mahoney will leave the club at the end of the 2025 season.

This follows the recent confirmation that Toby Sexton has signed with the Catalans Dragons.

Mahoney is set to join the North Queensland Cowboys on a three-year deal extending through to the end of 2028.

However, the Cowboys have stated that they have only "agreed to terms" with Mahoney, raising questions about whether the contract has been finalized or if he is still in a cooling-off period.

Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck expressed his enthusiasm about securing Mahoney, highlighting the vital role of the hooker in rugby league.

He stated, "Hooker is a critical position on the rugby league field, they touch the ball more than any other player, set the tone of your attack and are a key member of your defensive intent, which is why we are thrilled to be able to secure Reed on a long-term deal." Luck praised Mahoney as one of the best dummy-halves in the NRL, noting his game craft, close-range threat, and strong kicking abilities.
