In a move that sent shockwaves through the rugby league community, NSW coach Michael Maguire made the tough decision to drop James Tedesco from the Blues squad.
The skipper, known for his speed and agility on the field, was left out of the 20-man squad named by Maguire on Sunday night.
Tedesco, a stalwart of the NSW team with 22 consecutive appearances in the Sky Blue jersey, received the news in a phone call that he described as "tough." The 31-year-old had captained the side since 2020 and was a three-time recipient of the prestigious Brad Fittler medal.
But Maguire, known for his strategic coaching style, decided to give 28-year-old Dylan Edwards the opportunity to shine at fullback.
The Panthers player, praised by the coach as one of the most consistent performers in the game, will now have the chance to prove himself on the big stage of State of Origin.
As rugby league fans brace themselves for the upcoming series, all eyes will be on Maguire and his bold decision to shake up the NSW squad.
Only time will tell if his gamble will pay off or if Tedesco's absence will be felt on the field.
