Maguire named Coach of the Year at Queensland Sport Awards
Michaels Maguire, the head coach of the Broncos NRL, celebrated a remarkable season by being honored as Coach of the Year at the Queensland Sport Awards held on Thursday.
In his inaugural season leading the Broncos, Maguire guided the team to their first NRL premiership in nearly twenty years, achieving this with an exciting four-point win against the Melbourne Storm.
The team enjoyed a successful regular season, winning 15 out of 24 matches, and capped it off with a seven-game winning streak that carried through the finals series.
Maguire was among six nominees for the award, alongside notable figures such as Queensland State of Origin Coach Billy Slater and Brisbane Lions Coach Chris Fagan.
The Queensland Sport Awards annually honor exceptional accomplishments within the state's sports community, recognizing athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and various organizations.
The Broncos had a strong presence in multiple categories, with both the NRL and NRLW teams nominated for Queensland Sport Team of the Year; however, the award went to the Brisbane Lions, who celebrated back-to-back AFL premierships.
Additionally, Broncos star fullbacks Reece Walsh and Tamika Upton were also among the finalists for the coveted Queensland Athlete of the Year award, which was ultimately given to Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown.
