In a surprising turn of events, it seems that Michael Maguire, the NSW Blues coach, has made the tough call to remove himself from the running for the top job at the Eels.

According to reports from news.com.au, Madge, as he is affectionately known in Rugby League circles, has made it clear to Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos that his sights are set on leading the Blues to victory.

Maguire, a seasoned coach with a wealth of experience in the game, recently signed on to steer the NSW team through the 2024 and 2025 seasons, following the departure of Brad Fittler.

The 50-year-old was definitely a contender for the Eels coaching gig, but now it seems his name has been taken out of the playbook.

"We reached out to Madge after Origin I to discuss the Eels coaching position, and he made it clear that his priority lies with the NSW Origin squad," Sarantinos confirmed, using his knowledge of the game to hint at the tough decision Maguire had made.

With Maguire out of the running, the search for the next Eels head coach narrows, leaving fans and pundits alike wondering who will step up to the plate and guide the team to victory in the upcoming season.

It's a game of strategy and skill, where only the best can come out on top.
