Maguire Confused by Controversial Penalty

‘Can’t believe that ruling’: Madge fumes at ‘bizarre’ disrupter call as Broncos sweat on Carrigan

Broncos coach Michael Maguire expressed his disbelief regarding the disrupter rule after Gehamat Shibasaki was penalised, costing the team a vital try in their narrow 35-31 defeat to the Cowboys.

This incident was not isolated; another controversial decision involved Scott Drinkwater being penalised for interfering with Josiah Karapani. However, the penalty against Shibasaki was particularly harsh, especially as it seemed that Tom Chester had fumbled the ball before any interference occurred.

"I've got to say, I've got no idea on that, it's bizarre," Maguire commented on the contentious call.

He continued, "There was one in the corner over there, where they were doing exactly the same thing, so they're either going to get consistency around it or don't touch it because as the outside backs, we practice to catch the ball."

Maguire elaborated further, stating, "That is part of what you do and what I saw with Gehamat going up there, he wasn't near the body, or near Chester when he was catching it. He was actually further away from him, so I just can't believe that ruling it's bizarre."

He concluded by asserting, "But if they're going to go down that path, well make sure there is consistency and you guys can talk about that one."
