Fit for a Chief: 5-star accommodation and facilities to lure NRL stars

Papua New Guinea Chiefs players and their families are poised to experience a luxurious lifestyle with five-star accommodations in a secure setting, featuring convenient access to essential services and leisure activities, potentially including a private island.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo, along with members of the PNG Chiefs board, explored several accommodation options for players and staff while visiting Port Moresby for the recent Prime Minister's XII matches. They were quite impressed with the selections available.

The NRL received Expressions of Interest from 19 consortiums for building the accommodation facilities. Among these, three proposals come from well-established hotel chains in PNG-Airways, Hilton, and Marriott-all presenting top-notch plans specifically designed for the NRL team, including facilities for players, staff, and their families.

The proposals comprise a blend of new constructions and existing hotels. Notably, Airways' proposal includes the use of Loloata Island Resorts for the Chiefs' players and their families.

Players and their families will also benefit from on-site shopping, dining options, gyms, swimming pools, and various sports facilities, such as tennis, squash, and basketball courts, along with parks and walking trails. Furthermore, plans are underway for an international school to be located nearby.

Marriott's proposal was likened to Sydney's Woolloomooloo Bay, with its planned accommodation site situated in a well-established waterfront area, reminiscent of Darling Harbour.
