The Wests Tigers have officially announced the exit of star player Jarome Luai from their roster following the 2027 NRL season.
Luai has committed to becoming the inaugural marquee signing for the Papua New Guinea Chiefs after a recent visit to the Melanesian nation, a move confirmed early Wednesday.
He has secured a three-year deal, which includes an option to stay with the club through 2030.
This announcement marks a significant achievement for the Chiefs' head of football, Michael Chammas, as Luai is expected to bring extensive experience and invaluable leadership both on and off the field.
"Jarome is a world-class player and a proven winner. Securing his signature is a big step forward for the club and for Rugby League in Papua New Guinea. We said we would attract the best players in the competition and we've done that. It is a proud moment for us," Chammas stated.
"He embodies the style, passion, and competitiveness we want the team to represent. We're thrilled to welcome Jarome and his family to the Chiefs family."
"I also want to wish him and the Wests Tigers all the best in the upcoming 18 months and would love nothing more for him to finish his time at the club with another premiership ring," he added.
Luai's contract with the Tigers includes annual clauses, permitting him to explore new opportunities each year, facilitating this transition.
Ultimately, Luai will conclude his time with the Tigers three years into his five-year agreement.
