Iconic City Set to Lead as Potential Location for 2027 International Season Opener
London has emerged as a leading candidate to host the upcoming NRL international season opener, with plans for 2027 being considered.
This event could potentially coincide with the existing fixture in Las Vegas.
The United Kingdom presents a lucrative opportunity, especially given its robust Super League fan base.
In addition to London, Japan, Hong Kong, and Abu Dhabi are also in the mix as potential venues.
Peter V'landys addressed The Daily Telegraph regarding London's chances of appearing on the NRL's opening-week schedule next season, stating, "Yeah, absolutely. Out of all of them, to be honest, that's the easiest."
Anticipation is high, as over 25,000 fans from Australia and the UK are expected to crowd into Allegiant Stadium this Sunday for matches involving both NRL and Super League, exemplifying rugby league's expanding international reach.
Andrew Abdo emphasized London's appeal as a destination for rugby league enthusiasts.
"We've got lots of expats in London, lots of rugby league fans, and it's also a destination people will come to and gather at to celebrate for a week, not just for a game," Abdo shared with The Daily Telegraph.
In 2024, NRL subscriptions saw a remarkable increase, doubling during the league's inaugural season in Las Vegas, followed by a substantial 67 percent growth the next year.
