London Broncos Miss Super League Promotion

The London Broncos have reportedly been denied promotion to the Super League for the 2026 season, despite recent changes in ownership spearheaded by Brisbane Broncos icon Darren Lockyer.

After acquiring a majority stake in the club a month ago, Lockyer and his team hoped to elevate the Broncos to one of the new slots available in the Super League as it expands.

However, The Sydney Morning Herald has disclosed that the club has received disappointing news, confirming that they will remain in the second-tier league for another year, as they have been passed over in favor of Toulouse and York Knights.

In light of this setback, Jason Demetriou will continue to coach the team, and new players Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Siliva Havili will also stay with the Broncos.

"The club's current grading is a reflection of where the club is at," said Grant Wechsel, Lockyer's business partner, in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

"While we clearly see the path forward and know we have the right ingredients on and off the field to revitalize the club, the gap was obviously too far for the independent panel to promote us."

"Darren and I are very determined people and won't blink at the challenge in front of us. In fact, we are more determined than ever to turn the London Broncos into a powerhouse of rugby league in the UK."
