Zac Lomax is reportedly being targeted by R360, a new rugby union competition, and is "seriously considering" a move away from the NRL, with Ryan Papenhuyzen being the most notable player linked to this switch. The NRL is preparing for potential shifts in player dynamics as reports indicate that significant funds are being offered to rugby league and union stars to entice them into the new league.

Papenhuyzen has drawn attention for signing only a one-year extension with the Melbourne Storm last year, despite having a "mutual" option to stay at the club through 2027, should both he and the Storm reach an agreement.

Recently, R360 has shown interest in Lomax, a winger for NSW and Australia. Sports reporter Michael Chammas mentioned on Triple M Radio that the European-based competition has reached out to Lomax, who is now weighing the possibility of a lucrative offer.

"In the next month or so there will be players making a decision on whether they want to go or not," Chammas stated. "We have mentioned Papenhuyzen has met with them; I think Lomax is seriously considering making a defection. Which is an interesting one, considering the fact he is contracted for another three years at Parramatta."

Chammas added, "No confirmation from anyone yet, but my understanding is they have put an offer to Zac Lomax and he is considering his future...it'll be interesting to see if he wants to take that option that is out there for him at the moment."

This news comes as a surprise, considering Lomax only joined the Parramatta Eels in 2025, having taken a pay cut to leave the Dragons. His current contract runs until the end of 2028, with an estimated annual salary of $650,000.

Clearly, the Eels would prefer to keep Lomax, especially since his salary is regarded as "unders" in the current NRL landscape. While Lomax's contract suggests he is expected to stay at Parramatta, the CEO of Melbourne Storm has addressed the ongoing rumors surrounding their star fullback, albeit with no clear confirmation that R360 is officially operational.
