Exciting developments are underway as Zac Lomax nears a deal with the PNG Chiefs for their inaugural season in 2028.
Reports suggest that this agreement is nearing completion.
Currently, Lomax is competing with the Western Force in the Super Rugby arena but is due to conclude his contract by the end of 2027.
He aims to secure a spot on the Wallabies roster for the upcoming World Cup in Australia next year; however, his tenure in rugby union seems likely to be brief.
The accomplished former NRL player, who showcased his skills as a winger for the NSW Blues during the 2024 and 2025 State of Origin series, has transitioned into one of the top outside backs after being shifted from the center position.
Lomax has openly expressed his desire to return to NRL in the future.
The expansion into PNG appears to facilitate this aspiration, particularly as the prospect of tax-free earnings is enticing for Lomax.
According to journalist Michael Carayannis on SEN Radio, the agreement may soon be finalized following his visit to facilities in Port Moresby.
While there's also an offer extended to Joseph Manu, Lomax appears to be the more probable candidate to sign on.
"I think Lomax is all but done," Carayannis stated on SEN 1170 Drive.
"I think Lomax just needs to get to PNG and once he has a look, I think Lomax will be a PNG Chief."
"(The) Joey Manu situation is ongoing. He obviously arrived back in the country yesterday, having spent a few days in PNG."
