Darren Lockyer recently disclosed that he once contemplated leaving the Brisbane Broncos to join the Sydney Roosters early in his five-eighth career.
This revelation occurred during a casual chat on Nine's Sunday Footy Show, where Andrew Johns directly inquired about the longstanding rumors of Lockyer's potential switch to Bondi.
Brad Fittler, who was present, had recently retired, prompting the Roosters to seek a new marquee playmaker.
Lockyer recalled that the interest from the Roosters surfaced around 2004, right after he transitioned from playing fullback to the halves.
"They were obviously looking, I had just started playing six," he shared during the segment on Channel Nine.
The discussion highlights a pivotal moment in Lockyer's career and sheds light on the dynamics of player movement within the NRL during that period.
