Darren Lockyer, director of the Brisbane Broncos, has advised caution regarding Adam Reynolds' NRL future after the veteran No.7 suffered a hamstring injury during a match against the Tigers.

Despite scans revealing no major issues, Lockyer believes it would be best for both Reynolds and the team to give him an extra week off to recover fully.

The Broncos are currently ranked second on the ladder with a 4-1 record, making it crucial to prioritize Reynolds' long-term health.

Lockyer emphasized the importance of managing Reynolds' injury, stating, "I think it's not worth the risk, if he's got a bit of a twinge there...

that's not showing up in the scans but if there's a twinge mentally, I think you give him a rest." Reynolds has a history of injuries, including a ruptured bicep last season, which caused him to miss significant playing time.

Lockyer suggested that the 34-year-old's body may be showing signs of wear and tear, making it essential to handle his recovery carefully.

Reynolds, who played 13 games for the Broncos last season, expressed his desire to continue playing next year, despite initial plans for 2025 to be his final season.

This unexpected decision has caused concerns about the team's salary cap and the possibility of fitting him into the roster for the following season.

Lockyer acknowledged Reynolds' dedication to the game, noting that he has played over 20 matches in 10 of the 13 seasons he has completed, showcasing his resilience and longevity in the NRL.

While the Broncos are performing well this season, the priority remains Reynolds' health and ensuring that he is fully fit for the challenges ahead.

Lockyer's cautionary approach underscores the importance of balancing short-term success with the player's long-term well-being, emphasizing the need to make prudent decisions regarding Reynolds' participation in upcoming matches.
