NRL fans and commentators are expressing frustration with Latrell Mitchell after his quiet performance for South Sydney.

Despite setting up tries for his teammates, fans wanted to see Mitchell run the ball more as he played in the five-eighth position due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Will Kennedy's impressive performance for Cronulla debunked calls for Nicho Hynes to move to fullback.

South Sydney ultimately fell to the Cowboys, with Mitchell only making two runs and primarily focusing on fifth-tackle kicking.

Coach Wayne Bennett described the Mitchell-Jayden Sullivan halves combo as "OK" and expressed his support for Mitchell filling in for the injured Cody Walker.

However, Mitchell's subdued display contrasted with Tom Dearden's impactful performance for the Cowboys, as the young five-eighth played a key role in his team's victory.

NRL fans are eager to see Mitchell take on a more attacking role in future matches to maximize his potential in the five-eighth position.
