Allan Langer, a Queensland rugby league legend, is set to continue his role with the Queensland State of Origin team despite stepping away from his position as a trainer for the Brisbane Broncos.
He was seen in Maroons camp on Monday and will remain part of Billy Slater's coaching staff for 2025.
Langer's legacy includes multiple premierships and Origin series wins with both Brisbane and Queensland.
His departure from the Broncos occurred when Michael Maguire took over from Kevin Walters at the end of 2024, prompting Maguire to bring in his own staff.
Langer viewed this as an opportunity for a change and will stay involved with the club through a new role focused on working with sponsors.
However, he will also be back on the field during the Origin series, fulfilling training duties, managing team outings, and fostering team bonding.
Langer expressed his excitement about the upcoming season, saying, "It is just about enjoying each other's company.
It's wonderful - it's the three best weeks of the year." He emphasized the joy of interacting with younger players who continue to show him respect, describing it as "just a great feeling." Langer plans to take a measured approach in the first week, stating, "We won't go too hectic this first week.
We will ease the way into it."
This combination of maintaining a connection with younger players and stepping back from his previous role marks a new chapter for Langer in his rugby career.
