Parramatta's dedicated player Shaun Lane has announced his retirement from professional rugby, transitioning into a new position within the club's elite pathways program aimed at supporting young athletes. Lane is committed to helping the next generation of Eels players "thrive."

At 30 years old, Lane has an impressive history of 186 NRL matches, having played for the Bulldogs, Sea Eagles, and Eels. He distinguished himself in 2022 by being named the Eels' player of the year and participating in the grand final.

Though still under contract until 2026, Lane has chosen to conclude his playing career after an injury-affected 2025 season, where he participated in just five games at the beginning of the year.

Alongside his on-field career, Lane has pursued academics, earning a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, while also working towards a Master's in Positive Psychology. His decision to step back from playing was influenced by accepting a role within the club dedicated to enhancing mental skills and athlete wellness.

"I've absolutely loved my time playing for the Eels," Lane stated. "This club means a lot to me, and I'm incredibly grateful for the experiences I've had and the relationships I've built here. I'm really thankful to the fans for their unwavering support throughout my career - it's meant the world to me."

Lane expressed enthusiasm for his new role: "I'm now looking forward to continuing my career at Parramatta in a different capacity, helping the young athletes thrive on and off the field."
