Departed Penrith Panthers playmaker Zack Lamont has signed a new deal that will allow him to continue his rugby league playing career heading into next season.
Lamont was one of 13 players farewelled by the Panthers at the conclusion of the 2025 NRL season, alongside notable names such as Daine Laurie and Harrison Hassett. He will be joining the Brisbane Tigers in the QLD Cup reserve-grade competition next year on a one-year contract.
This move marks a return to the club where his career originally began, as Lamont previously played for the Tigers in the Mal Meninga Cup during his junior days before transitioning to the North Queensland Cowboys and, more recently, the Panthers.
Although he has yet to make his first-grade debut, Lamont joined Penrith midway through the 2024 season and showcased his abilities in both the NSW Cup and Under-21s Jersey Flegg Cup competitions, further honing his skills.
He was elevated to a train-and-trial contract in 2025, demonstrating versatility by being able to play in the halves and at dummy-half. Additionally, Lamont was recognized as Queensland's halfback during the annual Under-19s State of Origin match in 2023.
In the 2025 season, under his performance in 14 NSW Cup matches, Lamont scored 32 points, forced two drop-outs, averaged 86.6 kicking metres, and contributed five try assists alongside six line-break assists.
"I loved any good halfback… Johnathan Thurston was so good," Lamont told QRL.com in the past.
