The Kumuls' victory was a result of their improved ball control, solid defence, and clinical execution in attack, with halfback Kyle Laybutt steering the team around the park with his kicking game and playmaking skills.
The Fijians fought back in the second half with two tries of their own, but it was too little, too late as the Kumuls held on for a convincing win in front of their passionate home crowd at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
The victory will provide a much-needed confidence boost for the Kumuls as they look ahead to the upcoming Rugby League World Cup, where they will face tough competition from the likes of Australia, New Zealand, and England.
The Pacific Bowl win also serves as a timely reminder of the talent and potential within the Papua New Guinea rugby league community, and the passion and support of their fans, known for their fervent love of the sport.
