The Newcastle Knights are reportedly preparing to make a decision regarding Adam O'Brien's coaching future, as the team currently stands in 13th place on the NRL ladder, with only six wins this season.
According to zerotackle.com, plans are in place to part ways with O'Brien at the end of the 2025 NRL season, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
This revelation is surprising given that O'Brien had recently secured a two-year contract extension with the Knights until the end of 2027, following a season that saw the team finish in eighth place and compete in the NRL Finals.
The Herald indicates that assistant coach Blake Green is the leading candidate to take over as head coach.
Additionally, Josh Hannay, currently an assistant coach with the Cronulla Sharks and the Queensland Maroons, is also being considered for the role.
Hannay had previously been viewed as a frontrunner to succeed Des Hasler at the Gold Coast Titans.
