NRLW Round Two: Knights snatch victory from Raiders with late penalty try
In a thrilling match that will go down in NRLW history, the Knights extended their winning streak to an impressive 11 games by claiming a last-minute victory over the Raiders.
Tamika Upton's penalty try in the dying moments of the game broke Canberra hearts and secured the two-time defending premiers' spot at the top.
The Raiders seemed poised for an upset at home as winger Shakiah Tungai scored a crucial try with just nine minutes left on the clock.
However, the Knights rallied late with two quick tries, turning a four-point deficit into a memorable 26-20 win.
The dramatic finish was not without controversy, as halfback Jesse Southwell's perfectly placed grubber led to Upton being tackled by rival fullback Apii Nicholls in the in-goal area.
The referee initially ruled it as a no try but after review by the Bunker, a penalty try was awarded due to Nicholls' interference preventing Upton from a likely scoring opportunity.
Raiders coach Darrin Borthwick acknowledged the tough call, stating, "That's a hard one because Apii can't disappear.
I thought she was contesting the footy and probably the bounce of the ball and where it ended up bouncing to (meant) it was probably a tough one."
In true sporting fashion, the match showcased the determination and skill of both teams, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
The Knights' victory serves as a reminder of their dominant form in the competition, while the Raiders will be left ruing what could have been in this intense battle on the field.
