Report: NSW Cup Round 1 vs Knights
Wests Magpies have been outplayed, going down to a 36-10 defeat against Newcastle at Lidcombe Oval in Round 1 of the Knock On Effect NSW Cup.
Newcastle almost pulled off a miraculous try in the fourth minute, but winger Logan Aoake couldn't hold onto the ball over the line.
However, the visitors managed to strike first, with Connor Votano capitalizing on a deflected charge-down and crossing under the posts after just six minutes.
A new recruit, Izaac Tu'itupou, showcased his talents for the Magpies by setting up Solomone Saukuru for their first try with a clever offload from a cross-field kick.
Just when it seemed like Wests were gaining momentum, Justin Matamua appeared to score a second try only for it to be disallowed due to obstruction, leaving the score at 6-4 in favor of Newcastle at half-time.
The Knights came out firing in the second half, with Will Pryce displaying some impressive footwork to send Ayden Hoad over for their second try.
