Knights Appoint Justin Holbrook as Head Coach

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

The Newcastle Knights have officially appointed Justin Holbrook as their new head coach, succeeding Adam O'Brien.

This decision has generated excitement among many Knights supporters, but it has left assistant coaches Blake Green and Brian McDermott in uncertain circumstances.

Both assistants were considered potential candidates for the head coaching position, and with Holbrook's selection, their roles within the NRL hung in the balance.

However, Peter Parr, the new boss of the Knights, has provided clarity regarding their futures, confirming that only one of them will remain in the Hunter Valley.

"Brian McDermott has asked for a release from the last year of his contract, which we have granted," Parr stated in an interview with the Newcastle Herald.

McDermott will be leaving Newcastle to join the Gold Coast Titans, where he will work alongside the new head coach, Josh Hannay.

While Parr supported McDermott's move to pursue opportunities in the NRL, he made it clear that Blake Green would not be accompanying him.
