In a strategic move, the Newcastle Knights have recently secured the services of Jacob Saifiti, Phoenix Crossland, and Bradman Best, solidifying their roster for the coming season.
But their attention now turns to retaining their remaining off-contract players.
The headline act among these players is none other than Dane Gagai, a representative outside back with an impressive seven years and 22 games under his belt.
Gagai, along with his club teammate Kalyn Ponga, faced the disappointment of being dropped from last year's high-profile series due to a dip in form.
Nevertheless, Gagai has proven time and again his ability to rise to the occasion, and his contributions have been instrumental in the Knights' recent success, leading them to the finals in 2023.
However, despite his value and importance to the team, the Knights have yet to begin discussions with Gagai about extending his contract beyond 2024.
As the best player among the group of off-contract players, the club's Football Director, Peter Parr, revealed in an interview with the Newcastle Herald that negotiations have not yet commenced regarding Gagai's future.
The clock is ticking, and the Knights will surely need to secure Gagai's services if they want to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
