Mitchell Barnett, co-captain of the NZ Warriors, has suffered a major setback after scans confirmed a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in his right knee.

This injury occurred during the Warriors' round 13 NRL match against the Rabbitohs in Sydney.

The incident took place in the 21st minute when Barnett, in his 49th game for the team, was tackling South Sydney player Jayden Sullivan alongside teammate Chanel Harris-Tavita.

Barnett will consult with specialists soon to discuss his surgery and recovery timeline, marking a significant blow to the Warriors' season.
