Kenny-Dowall Joins Knights as Development Coach

The Newcastle Knights have announced that Shaun Kenny-Dowall is returning to the club as a pathways development coach.

Kenny-Dowall, who enjoyed a remarkable 277-game career, concluded his time with the Knights after playing 53 games before moving to the English Super League, where he added another 93 matches with Hull KR before retiring in 2023.

In his new role, Kenny-Dowall will focus on the under-16 and under-18 elite development squads in Newcastle, Greater Northern Region, and Mid North Coast. He will also conduct 'coach the coaches' workshops.

The club stated that this initiative aims to uncover the best regional talent for its pathways. Kenny-Dowall will collaborate with Andrew Ryan and Alex McKinnon in this effort.

"I've always had a lot of love for this club, so to come back and help develop young players is really special," he expressed.

"It's about being present in the communities, supporting junior clubs and making sure young players across the region know the Knights are invested in them."

Despite recent challenges in northern New South Wales, the Knights are committed to revitalizing their presence in that area through significant investments.

Chris James, the director of football, remarked that this appointment is a positive step forward.

"Shaun has a deep connection to this club and the region, and he's passionate about giving back," James commented.
