In this pre-season battle of the centres, Brian Kelly has quickly discovered that his new premiership-winning mentor, Des Hasler, has a lighter side.
As the 27-year-old enters his sixth season with the Titans, he is well aware of the competition for a starting spot in his maiden pre-season under Hasler.
However, Kelly's sense of humor has flourished in the "refreshing" direction that Hasler is taking the team, praising the veteran coach for his blend of strict tactics and a good laugh.
Despite not being guaranteed a position, Kelly has recently extended his contract with the Gold Coast until 2026, clearly excited about what his new coach brings to the table.
Despite coming off a career-best season, the Northern Rivers junior believes that he is continually improving under the guidance of the experienced 458-game coach.
